HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — Members of the Ogden Air Logistics Complex recently gathered in Hangar 265 to pay tribute to the remarkable legacy of the A-10 wing overhaul and repair program, celebrating sixteen years of dedication and hard work.

Maj. Gen. Kenyon Bell, Ogden ALC commander, addressed the assembled team members, highlighting their significant achievement.

"The Ogden Air Logistics Complex's work on the A-10 has been a tremendous accomplishment, requiring a huge team effort across decades," he said. "Your contributions have reinforced our leadership in aircraft maintenance and sustainment, equipping us to meet the challenges of both today and in the future."

Since its inception, the A-10 Thunderbolt II, also known as the 'Warthog,' has been a vital asset for close air support missions, known for its durability and firepower. Since 1999, aircraft maintainers from the 309th Aircraft Maintenance Group and the 309th Expeditionary Depot Maintenance Squadron, with support from many other units including the A-10 System Program Office, OO-ALC Engineering Team, the 309thAerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group, the 748th Supply Chain Management Group, and the 533rd Commodities Maintenance Squadron, have kept A-10s flying by replacing and refurbishing aging wings.

The Air Force has signed a contract with Boeing to manufacture new wings for the A-10 aircraft, ensuring its continued operational viability, bringing the legacy wing program to an end. Since 2008, 533 CMMXS has overhauled and repaired more than190 legacy wing sets in support of the A-10 aircraft.

“It was a very challenging workload, but it helped keep the A-10 as a viable weapons system,” said Joshua Tiffner, 533rd CMMXS director. “We are proud of what we accomplished, and this ceremony was a celebration.”

Bell said the years of hard work and dedication to keeping the A-10 flying did not go unnoticed throughout the Department of Defense.

"This ceremony is not just an end but a celebration of all the hard work and dedication you have put into this program," Bell stated. "Your efforts have ensured that the A-10 remained a critical component of our national defense strategy."

As the Ogden ALC transitions the A-10 wing shop and employees to new roles, Bell assured them of their continued importance. "

Your work is not being disregarded; we're simply going to repurpose your talents," he said. "Your efforts have been recognized, and we are forever grateful for all that you have done to support our nation. Thank you very much, and a job well done."

The event underscored the enduring legacy of the A-10 and the exceptional teamwork and dedication of the Ogden ALC, solidifying their role in maintaining national defense and aircraft readiness.
