  • Yankees' Jose Trevino: Slugs eighth homer

    Rotowire

Trevino went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Red Sox.

Trevino is tapping into his power lately with three homes over the last five games. The catcher is up to eight long balls on the year while slashing a strong .271/.317/.451 through 47 contests. He's added 25 RBI and 19 runs scored, but he hasn't hit a double or stolen a base all year.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Homers in loss

    Rotowire

Judge went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Red Sox.

Judge had a bit of a quiet week, going a modest 6-for-25 (.240) with two homers and five RBI over six contests against the Royals and Red Sox. He also struck out nine times, including thrice in Sunday's game. It's likely just the natural ebb and flow of offense in a long season, as the outfielder is still leading the majors with 26 long balls while adding 64 RBI, 56 runs scored, five stolen bases and a .299/.425/.686 slash line over 73 contests.

  • Yankees' Marcus Stroman: Too much traffic in loss

    Rotowire

Stroman (6-3) allowed four runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three over five innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Red Sox.

In addition to allowing 11 baserunners, Stroman was also on the mound for six of the Red Sox's franchise-best nine steals in the contest. Stroman has had two bad outings and one good one through three starts in June, though Sunday marked his first loss since May 9. The right-hander has maintained a 3.08 ERA despite a 1.30 WHIP and 61:38 K:BB over 84.2 innings through 15 starts this season. He's projected for a home start versus Atlanta in his next outing.

  • Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Dealing with lower-arm injury

    Rotowire

Rizzo (arm) suffered a right lower-arm injury in Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Red Sox, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Rizzo went down in a heap after a collision with Boston reliever Brennan Bernardino at first base in the top of the seventh inning, suffering an apparent right arm injury. The first baseman will see the team doctors and undergo imaging to determine the severity of the injury in New York on Monday.

  • Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Leaves game after collision

    Rotowire

Rizzo (undisclosed) exited Sunday's contest against the Red Sox in the top of the seventh inning, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Rizzo collided with Red Sox pitcher Brennan Bernardino while trying to leg out a hit, landing on his right hand/wrist. Oswaldo Cabrera replaced him in the game. More information on Rizzo's status will likely come following the conclusion of the contest.

  • Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Could be back Wednesday

    Rotowire

Cole (elbow) could be reinstated from the 60-day injured list to start Wednesday's game versus the Orioles at Yankee Stadium, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

The Yankees have confirmed Nestor Cortes and Luis Gil as their starting pitchers for games Tuesday and Thursday versus Baltimore, but a starter has yet to be made for Wednesday while the club weighs whether to activate Cole for his season debut or to have him make another minor-league rehab start. While shifting his assignment from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Cole delivered a gem in his third rehab outing Friday, striking out 10 over 4.1 innings while allowing one unearned run on two hits and no walks. He tossed 70 pitches in the start, so Cole would likely have a slight cap on his workload if he were to rejoin the New York rotation Wednesday. If the Yankees decide to have Cole make one more start in the minors, Cody Poteet would likely get another turn through the big-league rotation.

  • Yankees' Austin Wells: Back on bench Sunday

    Rotowire

Wells is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

Wells will sit for the second time in the series after making his lone start in Saturday's 8-1 win. Though he's gone 5-for-15 with a home run and walk in his last five games, Wells still appears to be stuck in a timeshare at catcher with Jose Trevino.

  • Yankees' Greg Allen: Lands on 7-day IL

    Rotowire

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre placed Allen on its 7-day injured list Sunday with an unspecified injury, Conor Foley of YES Network reports.

The 31-year-old Allen has fared well with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, posting an .819 OPS in 36 games to date, but he's not on the Yankees' 40-man roster. His injury will put any chance for a call-up on pause for the time being.

  • Yankees' Jasson Dominguez: Placed on IL at Triple-A

    Rotowire

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre placed Dominguez on its 7-day injured list Sunday with what Yankees manager Aaron Boone termed as a left side injury, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

The 21-year-old was formally activated from the Yankees' 60-day injured list earlier this week after a long recovery from Tommy John surgery and was subsequently optioned down to Triple-A. Over nine games at Triple-A thus far, Dominguez hasn't taken long to settle into a groove at the plate, as he was slashing .389/.405/.639 with five extra-base hits and two stolen bases prior to being deactivated. The extent of Dominguez's side injury isn't fully known yet, with Boone noting that the young outfielder is set to undergo further testing.

    Stats

  • Yankees' Juan Soto: Homers in loss

    Rotowire

Soto went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Red Sox.

Soto recently battled a forearm injury, and that may have been bothering him during an eight-game stretch without a homer. He also walked multiple times for the sixth time in 11 contests in June. The outfielder continues to put up superstar numbers with 18 homers, 55 RBI, 58 runs scored, four stolen bases and a .319/.435/.599 slash line over 70 games this season.

  • Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Win streak snapped in Boston

    Rotowire

Rodon (9-3) allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out seven over five innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Red Sox.

Rodon had posted a quality start in each outing during his seven-game winning streak, but both impressive stretches were snapped Saturday. The Red Sox put up all five runs against Rodon during the first two innings, and the Yankees' offense wasn't able to muster a comeback. The southpaw still has a strong 3.28 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and 81:23 K:BB through 85 innings over 15 starts this year. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, which is projected to be at home versus Atlanta.

  • Yankees' JT Brubaker: Approaching rehab assignment

    Rotowire

Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated early this week that Brubaker (elbow) is "getting ready to go out on an assignment," per MLB.com.

Brubaker is over 14 months removed from Tommy John surgery and has been throwing to live hitters for about five weeks. The 30-year-old hasn't pitched in a game since the 2022 season, so he'll presumably need a rehab assignment consisting of several starts. Brubaker could be ready to join the big-league club around the All-Star break, but given the success of the team's starting staff thus far and the impending return of Gerrit Cole (elbow), there doesn't appear to be room in the rotation for Brubaker at the moment.

  • Yankees' Scott Effross: Moving close to rehab stint

    Rotowire

Effross (back) has been throwing to live hitters for several weeks and is getting close to kicking off a minor-league rehab assignment, per MLB.com.

Effross underwent Tommy John surgery in October of 2022 and then had back surgery last December. Yankees manager Aaron Boone recently stated that the righty reliever is responding well to his throwing sessions, and it appears that he could begin a rehab stint soon, though Boone didn't indicate an exact date. When Effross is ready to return to the big club, he'll strengthen a bullpen unit that currently ranks third in the majors in team ERA.

  • Yankees' Jose Trevino: Day off Saturday

    Rotowire

Trevino is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Red Sox.

Trevino will get a day off after he went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-1 win. Austin Wells will take over at catcher and bat eighth against Boston.

  • Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Could rejoin rotation next week

    Rotowire

The Yankees are expected to decide this weekend whether Cole (elbow) will need another rehab start or if he's ready to return from the 60-day injured list, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

Cole was dominant in his third rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday, pitching 4.1 innings during which he allowed an unearned run on two hits and no walks while striking out 10 batters. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner tossed 70 pitches in the outing, so he'd likely have his workload managed to some extent if his next trip to the mound is with the big club. If it's determined that Cole needs another rehab start, it would be for ramp-up reasons rather than due to effectiveness -- he's dominated minor leaguers in his three appearances, posting a 19:0 K:BB while allowing just one earned run over 12.1 frames. Should Cole next move back into the Yankees' rotation, his season debut could come during the team's three-game set versus Baltimore next week.

  • Yankees' Caleb Ferguson: Dominant in securing 10th hold

    Rotowire

Ferguson recorded a hold against the Red Sox on Friday by striking out all four batters he faced.

Ferguson entered with two runners on base and two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning and finished the frame by fanning Jarren Duran. The lefty reliever returned for the seventh and proceeded to strike out the side on 15 pitches. It was the sixth straight scoreless outing for Ferguson, and he's picked up three holds and a victory while registering an 8:2 K:BB over five innings during that span. He leads the Yankees with 10 holds on the campaign.
