Gustavo Fring in "Better Call Saul"

Giancarlo Esposito has said that when Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould were thinking about the spin-off, it was either going to be "Better Call Saul" or "The Rise of Gus." They obviously picked Saul, but I can't help but wonder if we aren't going to get "The Rise of Gus" anyway. Mike is already a really important character, and we know he was a key part of Gus's organization. Heck, Mike was about to beat up Saul to get him to give up Jesse Pinkman, Saul fed him a fake address, and that was the last time those two ever worked together as far as I can tell.

So I think we're gonna see Mike helping Gus take down Hector and establish his empire. If Gus isn't onscreen before the end of season 1, I will be shocked.

Mike and Saul worked together extensively in Season 5, Part 1.

I could see Gus making an appearance a few times on BCS, but I doubt his entire backstory will be shown. BRBA was centered around Walt, here we got a glimpse why exactly does Gus hate the Cartel. BCS revolves around Saul with Mike being secondary protagonist, so a backstory on Mike and his motivations is justified.

Plus Gus' exact backstory (involment with the Pinochet regime) was purposely left ambiguous like the orange glowing briefcase in Pulp Fiction.

I don't think we'll get Gus's whole backstory from Chile. I do think we are probably going to see his arrival in Albaqueque and establishment of Los Pollos Hermanos and the rest of his criminal empire. He'll probably de-throne Hector Salamanca to do it (another character guarenteed to show up since Tuco is already here).

For some reason Mike trusted Gus and obeyed him without question. I think we'll get to see how Mike ended up Gus's right hand man. He's going to be pivotal for Mike.

Giancarlo actually turned down a "Guest Appearence" contract for season 4, saying he'd only return as a series regular. I think if we are going to see anything of Gus, we are going to see a LOT of Gus.

I think we will definitely see Gus in Better Call Saul. Saul is the one who introduces Gus to Walt and we do know that Mike ends up working for him, so maybe that's how Saul meets him. I'm thinking maybe the final season of the Season 2 finale, Gus will make his debut because that would be a huge episode if that happened. Then, Giancarlo Esposito can sign on for a series regular for Season 3 and onward.

If you'll think back to Walt being introduced to Gus, it is because Saul "knows a guy that knows a guy." Saul admits to never having met the man- or at least not knowing he has met the man. So if we ever see Gus in BCS, it'll probably be at arms length in however much regularity.

Oh, and that guy that Saul knows? Mike. It's almost always Mike.

If Gus appears on Better Call Saul, I think he will be a character like Pryce, where he is not relevant to Jimmy's storyline, but is relevant to Mike's. I think Giancarlo Esposito could replace Michael Mando in the opening credits if Nacho is eventually killed, which I'm predicting he will die at some point.

Didn't Saul origionally say he knows a guy (Mike) who knows a guy (that guy who Gus killed with a box cutter) who knows a guy that sells meth (Gus) so i'd bet any involvement Mike has with Fring's empire would be through third parties at first. Although since Gus' business starts out as largely just a distributor for the cartels Mike might be very important to his rise to power. oh yeah and Nacho will either die (for dealing on the side) or start his own gang (then probably die) because he isn't with Tuco in BRBA.

Mike knew Gus directly in BRBA. He didn't need to go through Victor (box cutter victim)
