Doctor Who: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Caroline Siede Girl Culture (Substack) [With] great arcs for both leads, the slow-burn build-up of the larger Doctor Who mythology, and the absolutely fantastic chemistry between Piper and Eccleston, and you’ve got one hell of a debut season. Nov 26, 2023 Full Review Doctor Who: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Stephen Pile Daily Telegraph (UK) Eccleston is such an electrifying actor that he conveys the doctor's alien status (he is 900 years old with two hearts) by the means of wide-eyed, slightly unhinged over-enthusiasm. Jan 8, 2019 Full Review Doctor Who: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (3) David Winner Financial Times Fast, funny, scary and beautifully acted, it manages to be vibrant and fresh to appeal to a new audience while remaining utterly faithful to the spirit of the old show. Oct 7, 2018 Full Review Doctor Who: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Roger Catlin Hartford Courant The stories may seem a little silly (the first foes are mannequins that come to life) but it's fairly lively and fun. Feb 11, 2020 Full Review Doctor Who: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Scott D. Pierce Buffalo News It's a decidedly British sensibility that mixes some state-of-the-art effects with stuff that looks, well, decidedly cheesy. And it's an odd combination of action, adventure and wackiness - an odd combination that somehow works. Feb 11, 2020 Full Review Doctor Who: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Sharon Eberson Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Some of the pop-culture humor and creatures owe a nod to Farscape, but the camp level is high and can be mighty funny. Louis F Doctor Who has the wonderful campness that we tolerate in a way we won’t for American made shows. The Empty Child and its conclusion, The Doctor Dances, are the two standout episodes. Season 1 is an excellent start to the Doctor Who revival. It made me feel like a kid again. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Audience Member Best Series I´ve ever seen. And it stays as good almost in every following season. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/19/24 Full Review ben s An amazing return to the classic show, some episodes like dalek are a 9 and even the worst ones aren't awful. From the writing to companions to the doctor it's a great watch. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review Justin B A brilliant reinvention of the show, with a strong enigmatic performance from Ecclestone as The Doctor and a surprisingly heartfelt and honest one from Billie Piper. Story wise, the season is all over the place. Dalek, the Moffat double header and the finale all click but elsewhere everything feels undercooked. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/21/24 Full Review Carol P Rose, I love you. Enough said. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/18/24 Full Review Audience Member There was a lot riding on the first series of revived Doctor Who, and they absolutely nailed it. Christopher Eccleston was a phenomenal Doctor and Billy Piper played a convincing 21st century companion. The wider supporting cast was grounded and everyone was cast perfectly. The writing was consistently excellent, even during the sillier episodes. The only real drawback was that we didn't get more of 9.Remember RTD for who he was, not who he has become.
